Shearwater Geoservices Secures North Sea OBN Contract

Seven-week survey to deploy new electric ROVs

Norway’s Shearwater Geoservices has secured a seven-week ocean bottom node (OBN) survey contract in the North Sea. This project represents the first commercial deployment of the company’s newly installed electric remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

The survey will be conducted by the SW Tasman, which will serve as the ROV vessel and utilise Pearl nodes. The SW Gallien will support the operation as the source vessel. Operations are expected to commence imminently, following an ROV upgrade, according to Shearwater.

Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, stated, “The project marks a significant milestone for Shearwater with the introduction of the new systems as part of the continuous development of our subsea capabilities and integrated OBN offering to further enhance reliability and increase operational efficiency.”

Ms Basili also commented on the demand for the SW Tasman, noting, “The SW Tasman has been in strong demand since its launch as a ROV vessel early 2024, and this project both extends that momentum, and marks the first deployment of our electric ROV technology, strengthening our ability to deliver efficient and differentiated OBN solutions.”
